Information for Locums

The Practice:

Moranbah Medical is a 5 doctor AGPAL accredited practice with Dr Johann Scholtz and Dr Reyno Nieuwoudt as partners. Johann and Reyno have been in private practice for almost 30 years respectively.

The practice has a strong training focus, hosting James Cook University Medical Students from year 2-6 as well as the GP Registrars. You may be asked to supervise students during your time with us.

While you are with us, your support team will comprise 6 receptionists with 4 receptionists on duty most of the day. We pride ourselves on our competent and very efficient staff who are always eager to help. Our Practice Nurses work on week days and assist GPs with immunizations, mine medicals, wound care, removal of sutures, carrying out of ECGs or whatever other support is required.

The Surgery:

The building was refurbished in 2008 so is a modern, well equipped place to work.

The Practice Software:

We are fully computerised with no paper files. We use the Practix software system which is very user friendly but you may need an hour or two to familiarize yourself with it if you have not used it before. We would recommend you come in the afternoon prior to starting work and we will be glad to give you a quick orientation on the software.

We use Medical Objects, Fetch and Health Link to receive electronic versions of reports and results from various specialists and hospitals.

After Hours and Hospital Work:

The GP’s rotate hospital duties (out patients, on-call and ward rounds) on a weekly basis. After Hours is mostly taken care of at the hospital unless a patient has a genuine need to be seen at the surgery or at home.

Over weekends the Surgery is open on Saturday and Sunday mornings and the GP on call for the weekend is responsible for these clinics.

Opening Hours:

We like to make our relievers feel as comfortable as possible by trying to familiarise them with the practice and with Moranbah prior to starting work. We hope you have found the information on this page useful and in addition we will email you the on-call and weekend roster. Please feel free to communicate with us on issues such as how early you would like to start working in the mornings as well as your preferred after lunch starting time. We would like to have your details as soon as possible in order to complete the provider set up on Practix, so will be in email contact with you.

Although Moranbah Medical is a busy surgery, it has a very relaxed and happy feel to it with a great team.
